Preparing your project around Leeds
Pudsey · Try the controls before deciding
Think about which hand you prefer to use and how easily you can reach a belt or fold a footrest. Ask for a demonstration and a written explanation of optional powered features. Choose around your everyday movement, not a feature count.
Acorn · Start with what you want to reach
Write down the rooms and floors you use most, the people sharing the stairs and the parts of the journey you find awkward. A family member can help take notes. Avoid climbing or measuring stairs if doing so would be difficult for you.
Try the everyday movements
Ask about sitting down, positioning your feet, fastening the belt, using the controls and turning at the landing. Check the proposed manual or powered features in a demonstration. A feature list is less useful than understanding how you would use the chair yourself.
Check the Acorn proposal in detail
Ask Acorn to list the chair model, rail route, installation, warranty, servicing, call-outs and optional extras in your written quotation. Confirm the contracting Acorn entity and the teams responsible for installation and repairs. Keep the written answers with your project documents.
Take time before agreeing
Check deposit, cancellation, bespoke-work, removal and complaint terms in Acorn's documents. Ask a qualified adviser about any support or funding relevant to you; this site does not determine eligibility. Do not assume an advertised discount or grant is a price you will receive.
